The C frame press (also commonly known as the gap frame press) is characterized by its unique frame style, resulting in a "C" shape around the backing plate. We offer C frame presses in a wide range of bed sizes and tonnage.
Although side access to the forming area is required in many applications, C frame presses are usually best suited for applications requiring smaller bed sizes and lower tonnage, such as assembly.
In addition to stamping, manufacturers may perform other metal forming processes, such as:
l Assembly: Two or more parts are held together by a C frame press.
l Bending: Use C frame press to stretch a material, usually a plate or strip of metal, by moving around a straight axis and applying stress. After removing the applied stress, the bending will be permanently set.
l Blanking: cutting out a piece of metal and leaving it in place. The rest of the material is discarded as scrap.
l Coining: Highly compressed all surfaces of the workpiece in a closed die system.
l Compaction: An object created by compressing a powder material, usually with a custom hydraulic compactor.
l Crimping: An assembly technique in which a custom assembly press and appropriate tools are used to fold and flatten the material so that two pieces are firmly held together by pinching action.This technique is commonly used to connect sheet metal parts.
l Deep drawing: The drawing of metal through a tapered die and then use C frame press to stretch it into a thinner shape.
l Embossing: The process of using a C frame press to create an embossing design on a sheet from a male and female die, with no theoretical change in metal thickness.
l Forming: Convert a flat metal workpiece into a 3-D part.
l Piercing: Use a hydraulic C frame press to cut or press openings, such as sheets, boards, or holes in various parts.
l Press fitting: pressing fit assembly parts.
l Staking: A method of using a custom assembly press to hold two parts together permanently by pressing one part into another and causing the part to flow plastically at the joint.
l Straightening: Bend, twist, or stretch to correct any deviation in a rod, tube, or similar long part or shape relating to straightness.
l Trimming: A second cut or shearing operation, usually of a previously formed, stretched, or forged part. The goal is to "trim" away excess metal from the edges to give the part the desired shape and size.
The most common C frame press applications include assembly, stamping and finishing.
